Burt Raimi began his legal career in the Appellate
Court Section of the National Labor Relations Board. From 1969 through
1971, Burt was in private law practice where he concentrated in
federal securities law, representing issuers and underwriters in
public offerings of securities and broker-dealers in regulatory
compliance matters.
Burt joined the Legal Division of the FDIC in 1971
as Deputy Assistant General Counsel for the Open Bank section. In
1973, he was appointed Assistant General Counsel for the Compliance
and Enforcement Section and in 1975 he was promoted to Deputy General
Counsel with oversight responsibility for the entire Legal Division
and all outside counsel. While at the FDIC, Burt worked on the resolution
of large bank failures, complex enforcement issues, including enforcement
of the consumer protection laws, assisted in drafting legislation
such as the Municipal Securities regulatory laws, the Community
Reinvestment Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act and was actively
engaged in the coordination of regulatory functions with the other
federal and state regulators.
After government service, Burt re-entered private
practice with the law firms of Rosenman and Colin (1978-1986) and
Dechert Price and Rhoads (1986-1993). In both firms, Burt engaged
primarily in a corporate, securities and financial institutions
practice which included all aspects of bank and thrift regulation
as well as loan documentation, loan workouts, mergers and acquisitions,
holding company formations and trust department and trust company
matters. His practice also included public and private securities
offerings, investment company and investment advisory regulation
and the documentation of complex corporate transactions.
Burt serves as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration
Association.
Burt graduated from Brandeis University in 1960 and
he received his law degree, with honors, from the University of
Michigan Law School in 1963.
